Controversial Protest
On July 10, 2008 Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio was in Tucson promoting his new book at Barnes and Noble bookstore on Broadway. At the same time 50 people were there protesting Arpaio’s policies, saying that he “created racial divisions in Arizona.”
One partcipant in the protest was Pima County Legal Defender Isabel Garcia. She participated in the protest as a citizen and not as an official of the state. Regarding her involvement she states, “As an attorney, I find it is not only my right, but my responsibility to stand up where the power of the state is used to crush people. I will continue to do so.” source >>>
